My life is based in the city but my heart and soul lives in the ocean. To stop my heart from yearning, I always find time to travel down to the coast. I have a soft spot for Ocean Grove, thus the van tends to steer in that direction. And on one particular trip, it just so happened to coincide with Ocean Grove's rotary monthly market.
I love a community market. I am drawn by the human spirit that thrive in these environments. Take the berry man who must have a good judge of character 'cause apparently “I'm such a lovely girl” that he throws me an extra punnet of strawberries! Bless his soul... But it's my encounter with Short Hive that makes this market visit memorable. I really did not want any honey nor did I want to try any (if I am to be completely honest, I didn't want any additional calories). But it was the stall holder's persistence, not in an annoying and invasive manner but more so you could see how proud she was of the product, was what wore me down. Though to hear that coffee, salted caramel and chilli had been infused in the all natural Australian honey, I guess my arm didn’t really need to be twisted after all! So yes, I did make a purchase. Not only does this liquid gold add sweetness to my dishes but it also adds that something something that gives it that little kick! Bye bye Nutella. No longer do I need you when I'm craving that spoonful of sugar. My palate has evolved and what a delight it is when I drizzle that honey on a piece of pecorino.
Short Hive, all natural Australian (Victorian) honey, beautifully and wholesomely packaged, perfect for the home, van or nomad life.
